Fire Police Officer Suffers Medical Emergency While Responding to Hellam Township Fire
Wrightsville, PA — February 11, 2026
A Fire Police Officer from Wrightsville Steam Fire Engine and Hose Company No. 1 is recovering after experiencing a serious medical emergency while operating at a house fire in Hellam Township on the evening of February 5.
According to a press release issued by Fire Chief Chad M. Livezleyberger, Wrightsville firefighters and mutual‑aid companies were working at a structure fire in the 6700 block of Dark Hollow Road when the incident occurred. Roughly 45 minutes into the response—at approximately 1820 hours—the incident commander was notified that a Fire Police Officer had become unconscious and unresponsive.
Emergency personnel on scene immediately requested additional medical resources, including a Basic Life Support (BLS) transport unit and an Advanced Life Support (ALS) crew, both dispatched by York County Department of Emergency Services. While awaiting their arrival, firefighters already on the scene began patient care.
The Fire Police Officer eventually regained consciousness before EMS crews arrived. Upon evaluation by medical providers, he was transported from the scene to a local hospital for further treatment.
Late that evening, the officer was admitted and listed in stable condition, with expectations for a full recovery, according to the department.
Out of respect for his privacy, the officer’s name has not been released. No further details will be made public unless requested by the officer or his family.
Chief Livezleyberger encouraged the community to keep the Fire Police Officer and his loved ones in their thoughts and prayers during his recovery.
