A Community Thank You to Columbia Borough’s Street Department
The readers of ColumbiaPa.online would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to the Columbia Borough Street Department for their outstanding work during the recent winter storm.
This storm brought heavy snowfall, bitterly cold temperatures, and strong winds, creating difficult and hazardous conditions across the borough. Snow fell steadily for hours, and gusty winds caused drifting and re‑accumulation even after plows had passed, making road maintenance an ongoing challenge. By the time the storm moved out, Columbia had received approximately [XX] inches of snow, placing significant strain on local infrastructure.
Despite these conditions, the Street Department crews worked long hours—often overnight—to keep Columbia moving. With approximately 104 miles of borough roads under their responsibility, the task was far from small. From main thoroughfares to narrow residential streets and hills, crews pushed through challenging weather to clear snow, manage ice, and improve safety for residents, emergency responders, and essential workers.
Their dedication did not go unnoticed. Many residents woke up to passable roads, improved traction, and visible progress—even as snow continued to blow back across cleared areas. The professionalism, persistence, and care shown by the Street Department during this major storm reflects a deep commitment to the community they serve.
