The holiday season is a time for giving, and Columbia Borough Police officers recently embraced that spirit by participating in the annual Toys for Tots campaign. This program, organized by the United States Marine Corps Reserve, helps provide toys to children whose families may struggle to afford gifts during Christmas.

A Community Effort

Last week, three officers from the Columbia Borough Police Department joined more than 30 law enforcement officers from municipalities across Lancaster County for a special shopping event at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet in Lancaster. Officers spent several hours selecting toys and books for children in need, filling carts with items that will bring joy to local families this holiday season.

According to event organizers, participating officers typically purchase between $7,000 and $10,000 worth of toys during these sprees, funded through donations and community support. After shopping, the officers assisted with checkout and helped transport the toys to a designated Toys for Tots distribution center, where they will be sorted and delivered to families before Christmas.

Why It Matters

The need for donations is greater than ever this year. The Lancaster County Toys for Tots program distributed more than 70,000 toys to over 16,000 children last Christmas, and organizers expect similar demand this season. Community members can still contribute by donating toys at Ollie’s registers through December 6 or by dropping items in official Toys for Tots collection boxes located throughout the county.
