Columbia, PA — What started as one of the most shocking local stories in recent years is now becoming something much bigger… a second chance for an entire community.
Just two years ago, the Columbia Boys Athletic Association (CBAA)—a foundation of youth sports in town—was rocked by a major theft case involving a former co-treasurer.
Authorities revealed more than $184,000 had been taken from the organization over a period of years.
In July 2025, that case officially came to an end.
The former treasurer pleaded guilty to felony theft and was sentenced to three years of probation, along with full repayment of the stolen funds.
While the legal case is now closed, the ripple effects are still being felt across Columbia.
💔 From Setback… to Comeback?
The CBAA didn’t shut down.
They didn’t quit.
Instead, they kept going—for the kids.
Today, the organization is still running seven youth sports programs, serving families all across Columbia. But behind the scenes, things have reached a breaking point.
👉 Right now, there are only THREE active board members running everything.
“The Columbia Borough Athletics Association is at a critical point, and we need help from our community.”
That’s not just a request—that’s a warning.
⚠️ What Happens If No One Steps Up?
For generations, CBAA has been:
- A place where kids learn teamwork
- A safe space after school
- A tradition passed down through families
But without volunteers…
➡️ Programs could shrink
➡️ Opportunities could disappear
➡️ Kids could lose something that shaped this town for decades
🔍 Rebuilding Trust — Out in the Open
Let’s be real—people haven’t forgotten what happened.
And the current board isn’t pretending otherwise.
“We understand there have been concerns and frustrations… including financial issues that affected trust within the community.”
Instead of avoiding it, they’re focusing on:
- ✅ Transparency
- ✅ Accountability
- ✅ Stronger oversight
This isn’t about going back to the way things were.
👉 It’s about building something better than before.

💪 Columbia’s Future Is On the Line
Every town has a moment where people either:
- Step back…
- Or step up
This is Columbia’s moment.
Two years ago, this story was about loss.
Today, it’s about what kind of community we choose to be next.
❤️ Final Thought
The kids didn’t cause this.
But they’ll feel the impact if nothing changes.
“We love this community and want to see it thrive.”
Now it’s up to the community to prove it.
👉 SHARE THIS. SHOW UP. STEP UP.
Because if enough people come together…
This doesn’t have to be the story of what Columbia lost—
it can be the story of how Columbia came back stronger than ever.
