Community Comes Together After Devastating Columbia Borough Fire
Columbia, PA – The Borough of Columbia is asking the community to come together in support of local families displaced by a devastating multi-structure fire that occurred Saturday afternoon in the first block of South 4th Street.
According to multiple local reports, the fire broke out around 3:20 p.m. on June 13, 2026, quickly escalating into a 3-alarm blaze that spread through multiple homes and at least one nearby building.
Firefighters from across Lancaster and York counties responded in force, battling intense flames and heavy smoke for hours. Neighbor accounts described hearing loud popping sounds as the fire rapidly consumed structures.
Authorities confirm that at least three homes were destroyed or heavily damaged, with additional properties affected by heat and smoke.
Thanks to the rapid response of emergency crews, all residents were safely evacuated, though approximately eight individuals have been displaced and are now receiving assistance from the American Red Cross.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal.

A Community That Stands Together
Even in the face of significant loss, Columbia has once again shown the strength of its community. Neighbors, volunteers, and first responders worked side-by-side throughout the evening—providing aid, food, water, and comfort to those impacted.
Emergency personnel rotated crews due to extreme heat and conditions, and mutual aid from dozens of units demonstrated the region’s commitment to protecting life and property.
Local officials urge residents to keep affected families in their thoughts and to contribute however they can—whether through donations, supplies, or simply offering support to neighbors in need.
Moving Forward
As cleanup and recovery efforts begin, the Borough will continue working with emergency management, relief organizations, and local partners to assist displaced residents and ensure they have the resources needed to rebuild.
