Columbia Borough Officials Urge Safe Fireworks Use Ahead of Independence Day

What the borough offices on the former airport property would look like if we built it.

As families prepare to celebrate Independence Day, Columbia Borough Police are reminding residents that fireworks laws will be strictly enforced throughout the community. The notice comes as borough officials work to prevent injuries, property damage, and fires during one of the busiest holiday weekends of the year.

According to Columbia Borough Police, fireworks are not permitted on borough-owned property, including streets, sidewalks, and public parks. Officials noted that fireworks have been responsible for serious fires in Columbia Borough in the past, making safety a top priority for law enforcement and emergency responders.

Residents are also reminded that Pennsylvania law places several restrictions on the use of consumer fireworks. Fireworks may not be ignited or discharged on public or private property without the express permission of the property owner. They also cannot be discharged from or toward a motor vehicle or building. Additionally, fireworks must not be used within 150 feet of an occupied structure, and anyone under the influence of alcohol, controlled substances, or other drugs is prohibited from discharging fireworks.

Police are encouraging everyone to celebrate responsibly and to be mindful of neighbors, pets, and property. By following state laws and local ordinances, residents can help ensure that the holiday remains enjoyable and safe for the entire community.

As Independence Day festivities begin, borough officials are asking everyone to make safety their first priority and help keep Columbia fire-free this holiday weekend.
